About this event
Join Blossom, Maria, and the Poetry Orchard community in a creative writing workshop inspired by Jane Austen! We will read/listen/watch inspirational materials relating to love and relationships; drawing from that, we will hold a group discussion where we make meaning of the work individually and together as a collective; following discussions, we will hold a group writing session driven by unique prompts and you’ll have the option to share your work with fellow attendees! We do invite you to read the workshop document in advance so the prompts have some time to marinate, we hope this helps you make the most of your writing time in the space.
Sign up for our newsletter for a discount on tickets and support us on Patreon for one free ticket per month!
Upon registration, you will be taken to a page that contains:
- A Google Meet link
- A document including inspirational materials and unique prompts
- A document for attendees to share their work with each other
All workshops are virtual and asynchronous. You are not required to attend the live session, but we hope you’ll join – even just to lurk – you might even make a new friend!
For the live session, video and microphone are not required – most attendees engage by typing in chat! Moreover, you are not required to engage in any specific way; no one is required to take notes or answer questions, nor is anyone forced to create anything or share what they made. You do not have to be here from the start or sit through the entire session, either! The metaphorical classroom door is always open; you will always be let into the room no matter where we are in the agenda and you are welcome to leave at any point, no explanation needed.
Follow Poetry Orchard on Instagram, TikTok, Tumblr, and Twitter where we highlight work from the community!
Note: Poetry Orchard events are 16+ only – not because we expect there to be explicit content, but so anyone who shares work with mature themes (e.g. strong language, experiences of abuse or violence) will be able to safely do so. All mature content is prefaced with a content warning.
Frequently asked questions
Yes! All countries and currencies work on Eventbrite.co.uk – our account was created on Eventbrite UK, which is why all of our events are on the .co.uk subdomain.
No. Poetry Orchard is in no way associated with any book, film, game, TV show, or public figure. This is an event hosted by a fan for fans to celebrate related materials in fair use for educational and transformative purposes.
By purchasing a ticket to this event, you receive access to a community in the form of an online space where you can engage in a group discussion about the materials guided by the facilitator, followed by a brief writing period driven by the facilitator’s original prompts.
Poetry Orchard does not claim ownership of materials outside of the discussion questions and the prompts, which are contextualised by the related material. Poetry Orchard takes the utmost care to credit materials to their source.
No, you don’t have to be a poet to join. We welcome people from all backgrounds, even those who don’t consider themselves bookish/creative, to come & try something new. This especially includes those who do not read or write poetry! Our programming centres poetry, but we have enjoyed fiction,
llustrations, and original music inspired by our workshops. You might make a new friend or discover a new favourite poet!
Other than showing up as your authentic self, nothing! You’re welcome to register just for the materials and opt out of the live session. If you do attend the live session, video and microphone are not required – most attendees engage by typing in chat!
Until the workshop is over!
Yes, please do! You do not have to be here from the start or sit through the entire session. The metaphorical classroom door is always open; you will always be let into the room no matter where we are in the agenda and you are welcome to leave at any point, no explanation needed.
Eventbrite requires ticket buyers to write a first name, last name, and email. Other than payment receipt, no other information about you is sent to us, and we do not store anything other than your email address so we can contact you if we reschedule the event, and to thank you for signing up.
We respect your privacy. We do not require your legal name for any reason, so please write in whatever name you wish to be called, like your pen name or internet alias and that is what we will refer to you as.
No, the live session will not be recorded. Workshop spaces exist in complete confidentiality; sharing materials, peers’ contributions, and screenshots/recordings of the session outside of the group is prohibited.
Facilitators reserve the right to reschedule live sessions at any point prior to the scheduled starting time. Live sessions are intended for groups of 3 or more people. For this reason, we require at least 3 registrants to join the live session within 15 minutes of the scheduled starting time.
If we do not receive at least 3 attendees after that point, the live session may be rescheduled. If any issues arise during the live session preventing the facilitator from completing a workshop session – including but not limited to: health issues, tech issues, or time conflicts –
a supporting facilitator may step in to complete the session. In the event a supporting facilitator cannot stand in to finish leading the live session, the meeting will be closed and the live session will be rescheduled. The rescheduled session will start from the beginning of the workshop agenda.
In the event of a rescheduled live session, the Eventbrite and Google Meet will be updated to the new date and time and registrants will be notified via email from PoetryOrchard@Gmail.com with more details.
We do not offer refunds as you are paying for access to the space, including the workshop materials.
Organized by
Poetry Orchard is a digital creative arts collective formed in 2022 by Blossom Gottlieb, Maria Helena Mikkelsen, and Nashira de la Rosa–lovingly referred to as the Orchardists. Grown from the need for a financially and physically accessible space centering marginalised creatives, we primarily facilitate creative writing workshops as well as offering editorial services and publication assistance, themed prompts lists, and quarterly open mics.
Poetry Orchard is an intersectionally inclusive space. As an Asian, Black, disabled, and queer-led community, we are intentional with our platform and aim to uplift marginalised creatives. Topics explored in our programming include activism and social justice; disability and neurodivergence; film, TV, and video games; literature; music; and more.
